2019 Folk2Funk Festival

Artists in Partnership Inc. and the Long Beach Public Library proudly present the 9th Annual FOLK 2 FUNK Festival and Food Drive starting Friday, March 29th and running through Sunday, March 31st.
All programs are FREE, but we are collecting non-perishable food and personal care items to be distributed to our local Soup Kitchen.

On Friday, March 29th at 7:30pm join Pamela Lewis and Friends as they kick off the weekend with some folk favorites by James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Crosby Stills & Nash and then switch gears into fabulous funk tunes by Stevie Wonder, Chaka Khan and James Brown.

Then on Saturday, March 30th at 12:00, Join Piedmont Blūz (VALERIE and BEN TURNER) in the Youth program room, for a hands-on Family Roots Percussion workshop where participants will explore basic rhythms and techniques for washboard, bones, and shakers.

At 1:15 Ben and Valerie , who are international ambassadors of Country Blues music and the Piedmont style of fingerpicking will take the stage to give a concert performance in the auditorium.

The music continues at 2:15 with the CAROLINE DOCTOROW Duo. Caroline is a singer/songwriter and daughter of the late author E.L. Doctorow, who has been called a great champion of American folk music and at 3:30 the award-winning jazz vocalist, songwriter, actor and librettist QUEEN ESTHER presents her Black Americana sound.


Sunday, March 31st  brings the BEST of Folk, Country, Americana, and grass roots music.
At 1:15, Vocalists and songwriters Feral Foster and Ali Dineen will perform beloved country, Americana, gospel and soul songs as well as their acclaimed original material. Feral Foster has been called the “Best Folk Singer in NY” by the Village Voice! Ali will be presenting her original Crankie “I know Moonlight, I know Starlight” which  is based on a song from the Georgia Sea Islands. At  2:30, JAN BELL and the MAYBELLES will present their original Americana, and rare gems by country music heroes such as Jean Ritchie, Loretta Lynn, and Hazel and Alice. “Jan Bell and The Maybelles are at the heart of the thriving grass roots folk music community in Brooklyn, playing regularly in Dumbo, and at the fabulous Jalopy Theatre and School of Music in Red Hook…..” NY PostClosing act CC and the BOYS who are a high-energy Country dance party will perform at 3:30. Christine Cherry is an amazing vocalist backed by a fun, rowdy, Country-infused Blues Rock band. Get ready for a Country Hoedown and some guitar-pickin' double-bass-pluckin', harmonica-blowin', foot-stompin' fun!
