Artists in Partnership Inc. and the Long Beach Public Library present the

9th Annual Barrier Beach Blues, Arts and Tribute Festival

June 29th-July 2nd, 2017

 

The Blues Community recently lost 2 legendary Blues Musicians: Long Beach Local, Michael Barnett and Blues Hall of Famer, Michael Packer. It is our intention to focus on their memory by dedicating this year’s event to them.

Thursday, June 29th- Long Beach Public Library- 111 West Park Ave.

7:00-9:00-  BIG FISH BLUES- a film documentary about the Long Island Blues scene from the 1960’s through the 1990’s.  See some never before seen footage of some of Long Island’s best Blues venues and musicians from days gone by.  Filmmaker, Leslye Abbey will be on hand for a Q & A. Special Thanks to ARTS IN THE PLAZA for their support for this program.


9:00pm- Musical Tribute to a Long Beach Blues Legend, teacher, musician, father and friend, Michael Barnett at LOLA’s- 180 West Park Avenue with performances by the Michael Barnett Tribute band: Mitch Weiss on harmonica & vocals; Clutch Reilly, Bass;Brian Senders, drums;Ken Kresge, keyboards & vocals along with friends: Benoir, J Brittany,  Diane Hoffman,  Kim and Peter Kuperschmid,  and many others from the Long Island Music Community who knew and loved him.


Friday, June 30th- Long Beach Public Library- 111 West Park Ave.

7:00- “Eclectic Blues Trio” with Steve Adelson, Kerry Kearney and Eileen Murphy

8:00 - Back by popular demand- Solomon Hicks- jazz and blues guitarist, singer, and composer (aka LIL B.B. King) quartet performs. You don’t want to miss this show!


9:00- The party continues at LOLA’s- 180 West Park Avenue with Latin and classic Blues by the “Muzik Canvas Band”

 Saturday, July 1st- Long Beach Public Library outdoors at Arts in the Plaza (in front of City Hall) In the event of rain, programs will be held at the Long Beach Public Library.

12:00- Peter and Kim Kuperschmid and friends- Classic Blues

1:00- The Random Blues Band featuring Benoir, Natalie Dangerfield, Heath Mensher and many Special Guests.

2:30- The “Hot Wasabi Crew”- Blues Rock

 

Saturday Evening- Long Beach Public Library- 111 West Park Ave.

7:00- “Piedmont Bluz” with Valerie and Ben Turner performing Country Blues in the Piedmont tradition.

8:00 – “Michael Packer Blues Band”- The evening will be dedicated to the memory of guitarist and Bluesman, Michael Packer, and will feature members of his Band, friends and special guests including Howie Haber, Lou Carrollo, Sweet Suzi and others TBA. Join us as we celebrate his life, his music, and his Blues Hall of Fame Legacy.  Old school Blues….just the way you like them!

Saturday, July 1st- JR Asian Fusion @ 9pm - 12 am - J. Brittany & the Bad Boys Tribute to Mike Barnett featuring Mitch Weiss on Harp, Ralph Raiola on Guitar, Glen Palermo on Bass & Jorge Ariza on Drums.

Saturday, July 1st-  LOLA’s- 180 West Park Avenue- 9:00pm- BLU MOJO

Final day of the 9th Annual Barrier Beach Blues, Arts and Tribute Festival.

 

Day 4: Sunday, July 2nd


RANDOM LB (the alternate art and music performance space)- 803 West Beech St. from 2-6:00 with your Hostess, Natalie Dangerfield and Host, Jimmy.


Drop in for “Brunch and Blues”- Bring your favorite Blues Song, Record, Poem, Photo or Painting to share with other like-minded individuals. Refreshments served.


The Party continues “midtown” at- LOLA’s- 180 West Park Avenue 6:00-9pm with the wonderful music and vocals performed by the popular Ms. GAIL STORM!
